Artist Statement:
(WARNING: My statements change almost as often as the seasons do in Indiana.)
A bit about me:
I create a variety of different artworks showcasing different subject matter and media. Physically one wouldn’t see much of a conceptual connection, however I assure you each one reflects my identity. I understand that most artist produce art and it naturally reflects their identity, but when comparing my older and more recent there has been a shift. I went from creating purely for aesthetic reasons or others’ interests to the big idea of my Identity. I do believe my art reflects my life and what state of mind I’m in. Sometimes I want to express my appreciation for my loved ones. Sometimes I want to share my sense of humor and other times I’m simply “emotional” and have a need to communicate it through art.
I love to draw and because of that passion, I push myself and pursue my desire to better myself. Art gives me the ability to focus that specific desire to be a better artist and overall human. At the risk of seeming self-contradicting, I also draw to escape my own reality. It’s one of the few things I can do to calm myself.
It might sound like my concepts are never consistent, but the truth is my life isn’t either and I’m am okay with that, for now. I am not lost; I reassure myself of that fact. I’m only exploring my art and capabilities. I don’t steer my art in any specific direction. However, my concerns lie in my technical skill and overall contentment for my final product. In the end I want to be happy with what I produced, which in return presents a reminder of my passion and my purpose with art.
